About Audiology (Hearing) Services

Our hearing specialists, called audiologists, will evaluate your child's hearing using age-appropriate testing methods and state-of-the-art equipment. The program offers hearing aid evaluations and fittings, and education for families. Hearing loss can lead to problems with speech, learning, behavior and balance so it is important to identify as early as possible.

Services We Provide

  • Infant hearing screenings (newborn hearing screen and follow-up hearing screen)
  • Comprehensive behavioral hearing evaluations
    • Visual reinforcement audiometry (VRA)
    • Play audiometry
    • Conventional audiometry 
  • Auditory brainstem response evaluation under natural sleep
  • Tympanometry and acoustic reflex testing
  • Otoacoustic emissions testing
  • Hearing aid consultations, fittings and electroacoustic evaluations
  • Bone conduction hearing aids
  • Earmold services, including earmolds for hearing aids, swim molds, custom music listening ear-phones, and musician’s ear plugs

Signs of Hearing Loss

Signs that your child may have hearing loss include:

  • Does not startle to loud sounds in the first few months of life
  • Speaks too loudly
  • Does not respond, or often says "what" or answers questions with unrelated answers
  • Prefers the TV or radio to be very loud
  • Appears to be reading lips
  • Complains that he or she can hear but does not understand what is heard
  • Complains of ringing or buzzing noises in the ear
  • Doesn't meet average hearing and language milestones
  • Progresses poorly in school.
